levels
preamble

Ever since I was a small child, I enjoyed customizability in video games.

I spent a lot of time editing Empire Earth scenarios without any knowledge of what made a level fun, or interesting. Building a small city in Minecraft was my hobby for a few years in primary school. It's quite ugly with my current standards, but I'm glad I did My most recent level construction projects have been pretty much all in Source Engine games: Half-Life 2, Garry's Mod, Portal.

As with many of my other projects, the point of failure here is that I suddenly get distracted by something else I find more interesting, and then neglect what I was working on before, leading to basically nothing being ever completed. Still, I'd like to share a few screenshots!

gm_riverside

Yep, this is the same bridge that you can see in the website header!
gm_riverside is an idealized mash-up of the Hungarian capital city's inner districts along the river Danube. The river-crossing is based on the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, which was opened on 1849. November. 20. The map would have featured ample amount of play-spaces, a vast amount of water and air, and plenty of hidden secrets and buildings which you could have entered.
The project bloated, it started to take longer and longer to make changes (and even longer to compile them!) and the map is unfortunately stuck in neglect.

"Out of Power"

Wouldn't you be surprised to know that this is unfinihed as well?
The earliest inspiration for this map was the Bowery district in Batman Arkham City, where streets are comrpised of two levels. I wanted to explore a tigther, more vertical urban setting. Initially I would started the player on a relatively flat area, and planned on later adding the other level, but found it difficult to move the player between the two, because of the large height difference, and therefore have dropped the concept for now. (Though I'm sure something could be made of this!)

gm_subway_tunnel

Believe it or not, I've actually finished something!

This is a small, modest-sized sandbox map that started out as a learning exercise in the Hammer Editor. I mainly just wanted to learn the ropes of using arches in the editor, and this ended up being the result. It only took a few hours to make, but I thought it was decent enough to publish, so I did! You can download it from the Garry's Mod Steam Workshop
